Southwest Air Ticket Booking For Cancun and Belize

Southwest, the pioneering low cost carrier of USA, is the airline which ushered in the era of budget airlines. The success of this airline led to development of the so called LCC Model of aviation.

The same model has been used by many subsequent airlines, with some modifications here and there, and these have been successful as well. The Southwest showed the way which led to many others following the same.

Southwest flies to destinations within US and also to international destinations. For many destinations, it has seasonal flights. To some destinations, it flies during the summers but on some other destinations, it flies during the winters.

In keeping with its winter schedule of flights, Southwest has announced start of daily flights to Cancun from Austin from November 1, 2019.

The weekly Saturday flights would also include Houston to Aruba flights and to Cancun from Nashville, Milwaukee and San Antonio. Weekly Saturday flight will also open from Denver to Belize.

The passengers who want to fly to these international destinations can do Southwest air ticket booking for travel period beginning Nov 1, 2019.

Why Airlines Create Hubs?

Academically, managing the operations of an airline is a very complex task which require the best of operations research (OR). The OR considers hundreds of factors, and incorporates theories such as Queuing Theory at airport counters, which help in ensuring that all operations take place without any hassles.

This goes a long way in ensuring smooth and punctual flight operations. When it comes to flight operations, there are two basic models which the global airlines have adopted. These are hub-and-spoke model and point-to-point flight models. This also takes into account the fact that hubs shall be able to provide cheap domestic flights to the passengers.

The Hub and Spoke model is generally the most accepted one by the legacy carriers and the Point to Point system works well for the low cost carriers. The Hub and Spoke model is to be discussed here. It shall be noted that there could be many points of origin and destination for an airline.

Now, in order to operate it will require to provide many services for the passengers as well as for the airplanes, such as fueling, maintenance and repair and others. This requires stationing of certain airplanes in one airport along with all resources which are required to ensure smooth operations for those planes.

While all airports do have certain basic services available for all planes, such as fueling, some others might be concentrated with more resources for a particular plane type. This higher order service airport is the hub. So, the question before the airlines is which city shall be chosen for making a hub.

A number of factors play a role in deciding this. All of these factors shall lead to the desired objective of getting the maximum passengers from the hubs and, at the same time, maximizing revenue generation.

Spokes, on the other hand, are cities of different populations. These could be origin or destination cities. Even hubs can be origin cities. However, what is important to know is that all flights must touch down on hubs for varying periods of time before reaching the destinations, if origin is not the hub.  Hubs allow airlines to connect passengers to their destinations.

For example, if passengers have to reach Miami and from different cities, say New York, Chicago, Los Angeles or any number of other cities, then it is cost-effective for them to converge at a hub and take the flights from that hub to Miami.

It is worth noting that the connecting destination need not always be a hub. So, an airline might fly from a hub city, touch down in another city and then fly on to final destination. Therefore, airlines create hubs in order to organize their operations in the most optimal way that generate maximum revenues and cause least possible inconvenience to customers.

San Juan- A Tourist Gateway to Puerto Rico

Caribbean regions has always held attraction for tourists. Comprising of many large and small islands, off the coasts of USA and Latin American countries, this region has been uniquely gifted in natural elements.

While beaches and forests have been naturally blessed the region in abundance, it is the rich colonial history, carefree and joyous lifestyle, rich culture, adulation for sports, architecture of colonial times and other elements that together make this region a must-visit region. One of the countries of this region is Puerto Rico

This country is just east of Dominican Republic. And, within Puerto Rico, there is its capital city, San Juan, which is rightly called a tourist gateway into the country.

San Juan can be reached from many cities in USA and Canada. However, the non-stop flights are limited from the cities of New York, Orlando, Philadelphia, Atlanta and Chicago. Among these, the largest number of direct flights are from Orlando (19), followed by New York (12), Atlanta (5), Philadelphia (4) and Chicago (3).

From Orlando, which is not a hub for any major airline, the non-stop flights are operated essentially by jetblue and Spirit airlines. From New York, the JFK airport is hub for American, Delta and jetblue airlines but it is only the Delta and jetBlue airlines which provide direct flights.

United Airlines flies non-stop flights from the Newark airport. Atlanta is a hub for Delta Airlines and, from there direct air tickets to San Juan can be booked on Delta as it provides most of the daily flights. Frontier is another carrier on which the passengers can fly to San juan from Atlanta.

Philadelphia is a hub for American Airlines and it provides 2 daily non-stop flights to San Juan from here. Two other daily flights are from Spirit and Frontier airlines, one each. Chicago is the hub for American and United Airlines, among the major carriers. But, both these airlines have one daily flight each from O’Hare airport to San Juan airport.

These flights enable tourists to visit this seaport city located on the northern part of island in shortest possible time period.

Airports Serving the Toronto Metropolitan Area

Ottawa is the capital city of Canada but two other cities, namely Toronto and Montreal, hold a place of prominence in all walks of life of this country. Toronto is geographically situated on a plateau which gently slopes downwards towards the lake. The city has deep ravines and escarpments. These escarpments were formed due to retreat of Glacial Lake Iroquois after the ice age. The city has long history of habitation and is one of the major world cities which are frequented by tourists from all over the globe. Airlines provide the easiest, convenient and quickest mode of transportation between the domestic cities of Canada and also from the other foreign cities. Airports of Toronto play a crucial role in aiding the movement of people and cargo. Since Toronto is one of the major airports, it has flight based connectivity with most of the world cities. So, which all airports serve this city, and its vast hinterland?

Pearson International Airport
Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) is the major airport serving this city. It is the busiest and largest airport of the country. The airport is named after a Canadian Prime Minister, Lest B. Pearson, who was also a Nobel Peace Prize laureate. The airport has 4 terminals- Terminal 1, Terminal 3, Infield Terminal and VIP terminal. Out of these, Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 are open for public use. The slots in these terminals have been provided on the basis of airlines and their alliances.
The airport receives an annual passenger traffic of about 49.5 million which is double of what it received 15 years back in 2003. This has been made possible due to significant increase in the international passenger traffic to this airport since 2003. The international flight bookings to or from Toronto has seen a 3 times increase in 2003-2018 period whereas the trans-border air traffic from USA has almost doubled and domestic traffic has grown only about 50%.

Billy Bishop Airport
Though most of the flights to Toronto fly from or land at YYZ, there is another airport which serves this city. This is the Billy Bishop TorontoCity Airport. The airport is located on a Toronto Island. Three airlines which operate from here are Air Canada Express, FlyGTA Airlines and Porter Airlines. The annual traffic of the airport was 2.8 million in 2017.

Besides, there are two other airports. One is the Buttonville Municipal Airport of Markham area and the other is Downsview Airport which houses Bombardier airplane factory.

While these airports are of Toronto, two neighbouring airports also provide alternatives to the busy Toronto Airport. These are Munro International Airport at Hamilton, southwest of Toronto and Buffalo Niagra International Airport of Buffalo, southeast of Toronto in USA.
