It is quite common for people to search for cheap air tickets on the internet, on different websites, be these of airlines, agencies or the so-called fare compare ones. In order to make these searches, people have to make use of the web-browsers. Some of the most popular web browsers are Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari, etc. These are used for visiting the various web resources on which the flight searches are conducted for knowing the prices. An innocent, or rather, an ignorant visitor would simply check for the prices that are shown and believe these to be the cheapest that are provided by the website. This might not be the case. It is the cookies, a software code, that might deny you just what you are after- the cheapest air tickets.
How it all happens?
If a website asks you to accept its cookies policy and you accept the same, the website leaves a cookie on your system. This cookie can store different types of data from your system, most notably the browsing behavior data. This data can clearly show what the person is after. This might tell which route or destination tickets you are looking, for which dates and other details. The website can then make use of this data to increase their flight ticket prices in order to deny you the advantage of booking tickets at lower prices. Therefore, expert travelers would always recommend the following steps:
a) Do not accept the cookie policy in the first instance itself. If the website does not allow you access ahead if this is not accepted, and you do need to visit it, then it is a compulsion that you have to agree to its cookie policy.
b) You can always delete the cookies from the browsers as a second option to prevent cookies from interfering in your searches.
c) You shall make the searches in the incognito or private browsing window. It is called Incognito browsing in Google Chrome and Private New Window in Mozilla Firefox. This is a mode of browsers in which the history of browsing and cookies are not stored.
Either of these three methods of clearing the cookies shall be used in order to find the lowest airfare tickets.
As a further step, it is always better to read through the
cookie policies of the website you visit before accepting them on your system.
Cookies are used in a good way nowadays for re-marketing campaigns. If you have visited a particular product page on any website and have added the product to cart or reached at a certain level of purchase process, but do not buy it, then these cookies will help in offering further discounts on that product through ads. This is to help buyers purchase the product. However, this can be used in just the opposite way as well. The airline flight ticket booking websites might not show the cheapest prices available to you if these find that you have been hopping on and off on them for the last few days for some specific flight route.
