Impact of Project NextGen On Miami Flights and Its Residents

For those who do not know about the NextGen, let us briefly describe what it is all about. NextGen is a FAA project which seeks to enhance aviation operation in certain air corridors of the country, banking on improved satellite-based navigation systems. It seeks to do away with the ground-radar based navigation and will start using satellite for navigation and guidance. Due to the latter being more precise over flight paths, it is possible to incorporate more flights by reducing the existing conventional flight bands. South and Central Florida is one of the corridors chosen for this project.

In all, this corridor has about 21 airports and the testing would be done on the flight corridors of these airports. One of the cities which is going to experience both the pros and the cons of this project is that of Miami. People throng to Miami all through the year. It is one of those cities which has high air travelling traffic. 

With this project, it would be possible for more direct flights being flown to Miami from different domestic and international destinations and vice versa. Direct flights mean that there will be reduction in consumption of fuel. The reduction in the fuel consumption would result in offering of cheap flight tickets to Miami for the benefit of travelers to this city.

Shrinkage of the flight band means that the new bands would be available for accommodating more flights but this bound to increase the noise levels for the communities that live in those corridor regions. With increased frequency of flights, the neighborhood is most likely to have sleep interruptions in night, and an all-day flight noise which can lead to deterioration of health. 

The consequences of increasing the concentration of flights are, therefore, being brought to the notice of the courts with the ultimate objective of compelling the FAA of seeing the downsides of the project.

Quite clearly, people are not going to fall for the promised cheap air tickets and would rate peaceful living surrounding much higher than reduced fare prices.
