One of the major airlines in US, United Airlines, has banned
around 21 breeds of dog and cat in their Pet Safe program which was partnered
with American Humane. This step was taken to enhance the safety and care of the
animal while transportation. These steps are important because of a high number
of animal deaths reported on United Flights early last year. So, the next time
you decide to book United Airlines flight for your pet, please refer to the
banned breeds given below.
Usually, the military charter is used to transport animals
but it has a very limited number of facility and at a time only 20 spaces which
comprise of 10 for large pets and 10 for small animals. These military charter
can cost anywhere from $250 to $325. In commercial flights, the cost could go
up to about $32,000. This ban has affected many passengers and military service
members with pets. In one of the posts of a national newspaper, it was
reported that United Airlines had the highest number of animal deaths in
2015-2017. One of the main reasons for these deaths can be because it was the
only airline transporting most of the animals out of the other popular American
carriers.
If you consider flying with pets then keep some of the
things in mind. Prepare your pet for flying before 30 days and get a health
certificate before you plan to travel. This certificate of fitness has to be
produced to the airline before the trip. Help your pet to become comfortable
with its crate. Take your pet in the crate and travel to shopping and market so
that it feels comfortable in its crate. It helps your pet to feel the crate as
its second home.
