As Southwest Airlines enters the Hawaii market with flights
from the mainland US, Hawaiian has opened another long-haul route from Hawaii
to mainland. Hawaiian airlines has announced flights between Boston and
Honolulu. It will take the flight from Boston to Honolulu about 11.5 hours of
flight time, whereas it will take about 10 hours from Honolulu to Boston. The
flight distance between these two destinations is about 5095 miles. It shall be
noted that the flight distance is calculated on the basis of the flight of the
crow and this is the standard used worldwide.
Boston was one of the largest markets of US which was not
having a non-stop flight to Hawaii. Boston is the city of Massachusetts. This
flight is expected to open up new avenues for the businesses of both the
countries. One of the major businesses to benefit would be the sea-food based
ones. The island of Hawaii has very rich fishery resources. This will open up
and hasten the pace of business development. Hundreds of thousands of people
from New England have already flown to Hawaii last year. So, the demand was
there and was waiting to be tapped. Now, these passengers can conveniently make
Hawaiian airlines reservations to travel non-stop in least time.
It shall also be noted that this is the longest route in US domestic
flights sector that has been opened up. Last month, Southwest airlines was in
news for its first flight to Hawaii and the promise of cheap flights. This made
the Hawaiian market more competitive and the Hawaiian Airlines already started
reducing the fares. But, these connections were from Californian cities.
